Children's season 06/14/2010
We went to museum twice for the children's season activities. But we only go for the free activities. The first one was done when Papa wasn't around. It was very tiring for me but thank God for good friends, the trip was worthwhile and enjoyable overall. Prisca did a message decoder craft. She pretty enjoyed it but as for the story-telling session... maybe just a little bit too long. The second trip was with Papa. It was truly relaxing for me. Prisca enjoyed the puppet show totally. She even went to sit with the children instead of sticking close to us both. So brave! She did a colouring craft together with Phoebe. Quite cute. Add Comment Gingerbread house 06/14/2010
During the last art lesson, Prisca did the house that Hansel and Gretel stayed in. It's a very sweet craft. Collage art (mimicking Eric Carle) 06/14/2010
I can do it with God's help! Following the previous lesson that we role-played the story of David and Goliath, I told the story "From head to toe" by Eric Carle and did a craft mimicking his artwork. I am so proud of Prisca. She did the craft so well! The children were asked to paste things that they desire to do all around the picture. Prisca has been asking to do violin learning. So, we pasted a violin there and she can do the learning well with God's help. Unintentional learning 06/14/2010
There are times that I try to make something to do some intentional learning with the children but often, our learning becomes unintentional as they are too young to keep still to listen to a lesson. We were playing play-doh. I wanted the children to mimic some works that we read in a book. Prisca, as usual started making her noodles and ice-cream. Her life is surrounded by food. Her current ambition is to be a baker. So cute right? But as I start to mold it according to the book, Prisca also started. But she only made the food part that is shown in taht book. Prisca took some vegetables to 'cook'. But I showed her how to make a face out of these vegetables and she had fun playing with them for a while. The hello-kitty toy was also fun for the children as they used it as a form of dress-up toy. This bulletin board was set up for Phoebe to do some Mathematical learning. We did it once and for the rest of the time, Prisca used the fishes to make tuna sandwich or some fish cuisine. This is such a surprise. Prisca has been asking me to draw her as a superhero. So, I drew it for her a few times. Today, she just surprised me by mimicking what I drew for her. And, she did it so................ well! Good job! Drawings 06/14/2010
Prisca love drawing people. She draws lots of pictures of herself, Phoebe and myself. As for Papa, he is often at work. Hee. Anyway, her drawings often reflect her emotions and feelings. A while ago, Papa was away overseas for work. Prisca drew herself, Phoebe and myself in the house and Papa in the computer. That was how we communicate with Papa during that tiring eleven day period. This is one of my favourite as it expressed her thoughts after listening to the story of Jesus's death. Library and us 06/14/2010
We love the library. To me, it's a place of inspiration, intelligence, idealism and instantaneous time-out. My children head straight to the shelves when they reached the library and they immediately went into an auto mode of pulling books to read. I used to get all stressed out over every single book that they would pull out. Nowadays I find myself simply scanning the shelves for suitable books and then clearing their mess afterwhich. All these done in a non-stressful manner. Maybe I just have my thoughts sorted out about having a relaxing outing in the library. We get good ideas on what to do at home from the library books so, here are some artwork that we try to mimic from the library books. I praticularly like the usborne series on things to make and do. The pictures are so pretty and the intsructions made so easy that you just got to try it on your own. Below are some artworks that we try at home: The first one is called fireworks. Splattering technique used here was done by toothbrush. Prisca enjoyed doing that. These are shakers that are filled with green beans. The red one is Prisca's and the green one is Phoebe's. Both of them did the painting on the plates and the triangles are cut by Prisca. It was very well done. Fish. This painting is finger-painted by Prisca. Phoebe did something simple. I drew the fishes for her and she finger-painted the sea. Up till today, when Phoebe saw the fish painting pasted on the wall, she would say "fish". These are hand-made flowers. Pretty yeah?! I like the fact that Prisca was able to use different materials to make the flowers. She also like the end-product. We were supposed to write a message for Papa on the biggest flower but we haven't find the opportunity to do it yet. Another kind of flower but only this time round, these are painted. The centre is painted using sponge. Prisca wanted them in pink but somehow, the pink ones did not turn out very nice so, we changed them to yellow. I like the final product. It is very beautiful. Little Prisca's protrait 05/10/2010
Prisca's favourite colours are pink and red and pink recently. She's getting very detailed in her drawings these days. She's very particular about the colours used. She would use beige for complexion, black for hair and then pink for her attire. I tried to teach her to draw using pencil first as she is very used to drawing with crayons, pens or whichever art medium she's going to use. So, I taught her to follow 3 steps in drawing and filling it with colours. 1. Draw with pencil. 2. Colour with crayons. 3. Outline with black crayon. She tried but still feel very uncomfortable about using pencil first. Finally, I drew her self-protrait and had her fill it with colours and outline. She coloured and outlined it all by herself. Good job! And, she wrote "I love Pamela." Prisca's first illustrated book 05/10/2010
I tried something new with Prisca. The story is written by me, inspired by what Prisca has been talking about recently. A week of Chinese learning 05/10/2010
We bought a set of Chinese books to help Prisca to learn word recognition for Chinese. So, I tried doing that with her for a whole week and see how things are. Thank God that she is interested in the books. And, to my pleasant surprise, little Phoebe enjoys the books as well. Phoebe would bring the book before me and say, "ead" She can't really pronounce "Read". The "R" sound is difficult for her. She's been able to say a few words recently and of course, the most pleasing word to my ears is.... "read" haha... (hmm... shouldn't it be Mama?) One of the things that I've been praying and hoping for this active little girl is that she would love reading like her big sister. So, when you have a little girl whose first few words include "read", it's just pleasantly delightful. Of course, I still delight in the sound... "Mama...". There's a particular Chinese book "beach" which talks about the family going to the beach. So, I took the opportunity to ask Prisca to cut out pictures of things related to beach and stuck it to her bulletin board. She enjoys the beach very much. Painting elmo and cookie monster 05/10/2010
I've been working on the hand-painted shoes recently. So, Prisca has been seeing me paint lots and lots recently. Whenever she does see me painting, she would request to paint as well. But I can't possibly let her paint on my customers' shoes, so, I told her to paint on paper. And, this is what she painted. It is fabulous! Prisca painted elmo and cookie monster in the park on a sunny day. There are birds in the one-cloud sky. And, there's an apple tree with a nest full of eggs in the painting. She also painted rocks which were actually flying around the painting. So, I told her if rocks flew around, that could be very dangerous. So, she tried not to paint more flying rocks. Side-track: Overheard Prisca and Papa's conversation in the car.... Papa: "How about you carry me instead of me carrying you all the time? Prisca: "But I do not have a cape and mask." Papa: "Haha...." (She meant to say that she's not a super-hero with super string abilities.) Interesting thoughts from a little girl. |
